Principle of Operation
The COD test uses a hot sulfuric acid solution containing potassium dichromate, with silver sulfate acting as a catalyst and mercury sulfate used to mask chloride interference. Organic matter in the sample consumes the dichromate during digestion; the remaining dichromate is subsequently determined photometrically and reported as COD in mg/L O₂.
Applications
APCODR1 can be used for COD monitoring in:
- Drinking water
- Mineral water
- Well water
- Swimming pool water
- Surface water
- Groundwater
- Aquaculture
- Boiler water
- Process water
- Industrial wastewater
- Effluent water
- Cooling systems
- Chiller water
- Environmental monitoring and water-treatment applications
Interferences
Potential interfering substances include straight-chain aliphatic compounds, aromatic hydrocarbons, fatty acids, chlorides, nitrites and iron. Proper sample preparation and adherence to the applicable test procedure are recommended.
Refill Pack Contents
The manufacturer’s safety documentation identifies the APCODR1 refill packaging as containing reagent bottles and a plastic syringe. The listed reagent components include CODC1, CODS1 and CODM1.
Important Safety Information
